Car Rental Tips for the Philippines

International Driver's License

Foreigners need an International Driving Permit (IDP) plus their home country license. Valid for 90 days in the Philippines.

Always Get Insurance

Basic TPL is included by law. Comprehensive coverage is strongly recommended — accidents are common in Metro Manila traffic.

Consider a Driver

Hiring a driver (₱800–₱1,500/day) is often worth it. Manila traffic is complex and parking is difficult in BGC and Makati.

Fuel Policy

Most rentals are 'full-to-full' — you receive a full tank and return it full. Check the policy before signing.

Book in Advance

During peak season (December, Holy Week, summer) rental cars sell out fast. Book at least 2 weeks ahead.

Negotiate for Long-term

For rentals over 7 days, always negotiate. Most agencies offer 15–25% discounts for weekly or monthly bookings.
